BIRTH TRAUMA RECOVERY

One in three births are considered to be traumatic, with Mums and Dads still experiencing symptoms of trauma long after the birth

Was your birth difficult, or have you experienced a traumatic event during pregnancy, or postnatally?

Do you feel that even though the event has occurred in the past, it is still very much on your mind and is still affecting you in the present?

It’s not unusual after any traumatic event for a person to feel out of sorts and in a state of shock.

Recent research shows that around 30,000 women a year experience birth trauma in the UK – instead of being joyful and happy, the experience of being pregnant, giving birth or their journey to becoming a Mum has been frightening.

Even if you’re holding a beautiful healthy baby, any birth experience that was frightening for one or both parents, often with a feeling of loss of control can be traumatic, even when Mum and baby are well.

Trauma can manifest itself into various forms of maternal mental health and symptoms can often become blurred with postnatal anxiety, postnatal depression, or maternal OCD – each of which need to be supported differently. If you’ve experienced any kind of perinatal trauma, getting the right support will enable you to start feeling better.

As a new parent we can also feel overwhelmed and exhausted, without the time or energy to reflect, or come to terms with a traumatic experience.  It’s vital that you can get the help and support that you need from someone who really understands the perinatal journey.

Perinatal or birth trauma can lead to symptoms varying from flashbacks to the birth, heightened anxiety, panic attacks, sadness, anger, depression or difficulty bonding with your baby or relating to your partner.

Witnessing someone else’s trauma can also be distressing; it’s thought that as many as 5% of partners develop trauma symptoms having been present during the birth.

Birth trauma recovery will help if: –

  • You’ve had a difficult birth or perinatal experience
  • You are experiencing some of the trauma symptoms listed below
  • You are ready to take steps to feel better, improve your health and wellbeing and hold hope that recovery is possible
  • You want to be supported by someone who specialises in perinatal trauma, with a tried and tested approach
  • Your traumatic experience was more than six weeks ago

How Can I Help You?

Due to my experiences and rollercoaster journey to motherhood, I can relate to how it feels to be affected by trauma and the associated symptoms and feelings.  My experiences, together with the training I have undertaken, have made me so passionate about helping you to move forward from any trauma you may have experienced.

As a qualified TBR practitioner I can work with you using The Traumatic Birth Recovery 3 Step Rewind Technique – an extremely effective therapy, which aims to separate the memory of the event from negative feelings, allowing the feelings to be processed, so the memory no longer provokes anxiety, fear, sadness or panic. This enables you to then move forward with your life.

A huge benefit of this technique is that it’s non-intrusive with no need for you to re-live the specific details of the events that have traumatised you, which avoids embedding the trauma further.

This technique would be ideal if you have experienced any kind of perinatal trauma and are experiencing trauma symptoms in a debilitating way which are affecting you in your day to day life. This will enable you to return to the state of good emotional mental health you enjoyed prior to this traumatic event.

This is a gentle, safe and effective 3 step process that allows the ‘fight or flight’ response to stand down after a difficult or traumatic event, providing emotional and mental space to enable you to feel calmer, more able to cope and bring back an even better version of your old self.

This technique can help anyone that has experienced or witnessed perinatal trauma including: –

  • Parents
  • Birth partners
  • Doctors
  • Midwives
  • Doulas

What is Traumatic Birth Recovery 3 Step Rewind Technique?

The aim of this technique is to allow you to come to terms with your traumatic experience.  It won’t erase the memory of your experience, but it will enable you to reflect differently and lift the symptoms of the trauma by: –

  • Identifying and isolating specific events or a series of events around your experience which you’re finding difficult to process
  • Exploring the emotions that you’ve been experiencing and using Solutions Focused Questions to explore how you’d like to feel instead
  • Neutralising any traumatic or negative feelings as you will be reflecting in a different way
  • Helping you to re-gain control and take steps to move forward with your life again
  • You may find that you are able to discuss your experience more calmly and openly with a more positive feeling towards your experience
  • It may help you to move forward and consider a future pregnancy, or confidently plan a future birth.

The TBR 3 Step Rewind Technique has been developed using Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and deep relaxation to create a programme that is non-invasive and safe yet can be very effective at relieving the symptoms of trauma in as little as 2-3 sessions.

Traumatic Birth Recovery 3 Step Rewind Technique – £150

This technique involves three stages, for which you would need to commit to all three of the following sessions: –

Session 1 (90 minutes) – Hearing your story (should you want to tell it, you don’t have to if you don’t want to) to understand how it is impacting your day-to-day life now and how you would like to feel if these feelings/ways of responding were lifted.  You will leave this session with a bespoke relaxation recording tailored to your situation, which will enable you to continue your recovery at home.

Session 2 (60 minutes) – Using the Rewind technique to re-process the memory of your trauma, so it no longer holds any emotional charge. To imagine your future free of those feelings whilst deeply relaxed.

Session 3 (30 minutes) – We review how you’re feeling and any changes which have taken place, whilst focusing on your hopes for the future, imagining your life with these feelings lifted and the ability to move forward.

Once we have completed all three sessions you should notice a significant difference and a reduction in trauma symptoms.

Due to the current situation with COVID-19, these sessions will be done via Zoom, or in a safe, socially distanced environment to suit your needs.  This environment must be a quiet and comfortable space where you will be completely undisturbed throughout each stage of this process.

If you feel that the time is right to move forward from your traumatic experience then contact me for a confidential and informal chat about how I can help you.
